Friday Funday: Q&A

 Happy Friday!

I started my new job this week so I apologize for being MIA while I try to figure out how to balance work, life & blogging.

The Man Behind The Blog: Impromptu Q&A

A friend of mine posted this Q&A on social media and I thought it would be fun to share it on my blog since I've never done a Q&A with K before.  It was also the perfect way to pass the time on our 2.5 hour drive from West Palm Beach to Orlando over the weekend.

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers

One of my favorite bloggers Pinky from Pink Persistence tagged me in her Sisterhood of the World Bloggers post and I wanted to share my answers to her questions. Some of this stuff I probably haven't talked about on my blog so it'll also help some of you get to know me better.

1. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging back in 2008 for work but didn't get into lifestyle blogging until Kate and I became friends. She pretty much convinced me to give it a try in 2012 when I started Martinis & Bikinis and here I am today still trucking blogging along!

2. Who would you want to play in a movie?
I love anything with Drew Barrymore. I can't think of a particular role. Since I'm not a huge TV person, actors and actresses are something I'm not very in tune with.

3. If you could travel anywhere tomorrow where would you go?
My travel list is miles long but I would choose to fly over to Europe so I can hop around and visit as many countries as possible. The Greek Islands being the top of my list. I'd love to take a cruise that takes you to three or four of the islands.

4. What is your favorite/least favorite thing about blogging?
I love blogging mainly because of the friendships you make and the interesting people you get to connect with all around the world. As for my least favorite thing, I would say the time-consuming aspect to it especially when you work a full-time job. Sometimes it can be stressful keeping up with everything. I also struggle with how much personal information to share considering anyone can be reading your blog.

5. Where do you turn when you have writer's block?
I usually take a break for a day or two to regroup my thoughts. During that time, I find inspiration from Pinterest, things happening in my life and around me (Facebook sometimes), shopping deals, current events, and going through my photos, conversations with friends etc.

6. What are your favorite kind of posts to read?
I like a variety of posts just like I write about a variety of things  ~ anything related to travel, fashion, recipes, personal life events, tutorials and funny stories are probably the top of my list.

7. Is your hair your natural color?
Not any more. I was blonde all through childhood but my hair slowly starting getting darker during my teens to an ashy gross blonde/brown color so I've been getting highlights done for a while now. I've also used box dyes to lighten my hair in the past. I did try going brunette years ago but I don't think it suits me at all!

8. What is your favorite decade and why?
I've never really contemplated this but I'm digging this decade. I'm a lover of technology so it would only be appropriate. Although the bright colors, high-top shoes, big hairstyles, and puff paint in the 90s were fun too.

9. Have you dealt with blog drama (mean comments, dramatic people, fake friends)? If so, how did you deal?
Luckily I have not. I try to keep personal details about my life unspoken on my blog. I feel that's the stuff that leaves you most open to scrutiny but I could be wrong. I am an honest and transparent person in real life but I don't think the world needs to know the nitty-gritty of my life. Trolls will be trolls though.

10. If you could have any job in the world what would you do?
I would love to work with Children Social Services but I'm sure that would have it's challenges. A Crime Scene Investigator is also very intriguing to me but I'm not sure I could stomach it.

I don't particularly like tagging others in posts so whoever wants to play along with Sisterhood of the World Bloggers, you can use the questions above and share your answers. I'd love to read about you so feel free to send me the link to your post!

Q&A About Me

Yesterday I posted Steph's Q&A so I figured I'd answer the same questions about myself today to share with all you out there. Just in case you wanted to know!

Birthplace:
Trinidad, West Indies (Caribbean)

Current location:
Central Florida (moved to Florida when I was 18)

I don't live in San Fran as my profile photo above may suggest. Just love traveling and exploring different places.

Profession:
Online Marketing/Account Manager for a Tech company.

Favorite mentor/idol of the past or present:
My late grandmother (granny) for showing our family unconditional love and always being supportive of me. I've also always loved Bob Marley, Mother Theresa and Mahatma Ghandi for their inspirational lives and the marks they left on history for different reasons.

Quote that represent your mentality:
To keep things simple and a quote I've always turned to many times throughout my life: What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

What's your dream vacation if you were loaded?
My travel bucket list is never-ending but I'd love either a busy city trip exploring all the major cities/countries in Europe or going across the Pacific Ocean to the luxurious islands of Bora Bora in Tahiti and relaxing in paradise.

Husband ~ likes & quirks:
K is a very sincere and kind hearted person who wears his heart on his shoulder (which can also be a quirk when it comes to football season and his team is losing).

Favorite season:
We don't go real seasons here but I love warm, sunny weather however Florida in the summer can be uncomfortably hot so leaning toward Fall when it cools off a bit but still warm enough to be outdoors.

What does your name mean?
I never looked this up before but Emily means to strive or excel, which makes sense and is something I find important in my personal and professional life.

What items do you own that hold sentimental value to you?
My late grandmother's earrings along with some of her crystal and silverware that I inherited when she passed. I also have my baby book and several photo albums from throughout the years that hold a lot of memories.

What do you wish for when you blow out your birthday candles or does it change every year?
Every year I wish for another year of health and happiness and often also wish for success in my career path.

Thanks for reading through some facts about me. More random info about yours truly can be found on my About Me page.

Is it the weekend yet?

Q&A With Steph

I had the pleasure of casually "interviewing" Steph from Life According to Steph recently to learn more about her background and what makes her tick. I've grown to love reading her blog on a daily basis and enjoy her witty tips for everyday life along with her no-bullshit personality and sense of humor. I answered the same questions and will post my Q&A tomorrow if you wish to know more about me.

Meet Steph:

Birthplace:
Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania

Current location:
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Profession:
Marketing Communications Manager

Favorite mentor/idol of the past or present:
I come from a long line of strong women who were doers both in their personal and professional lives: hard workers, great cooks, good housekeepers, outspoken women. I've benefited from all of  that greatly.

Quotes you love:

What's your dream vacation if you were loaded?
I'm up for almost anything, and being loaded would grant me the luxury of limitless travel since I wouldn't have to worry about days off. I'd make my way through every US state in chauffeured RV and bring the dogs along. I'd tick off everywhere in the world after that and I'd take ocean liners so my dogs could come without flying because I'm a crazy dog lady.

Years married:
Four years on September 25th. Last month 12 years together too.

Husband ~ likes and quirks:
MFD is the mayor, he'll talk to anyone and make friends wherever we go.

Favorite season:
I love something about every season, but overall I love the fall the best. Great skies, changing leaves, crisp weather.

What does your name mean?
Stephanie - Crowned in victory.

What items do you own that hold sentimental value to you?
Clothes my Mom Mom made me when I was little, my wedding cake topper, spaghetti glasses from my Grandmom.

What do you wish for when you blow our your birthday candles or does it change every year?
I can't divulge my secret birthday wishes.

Check back tomorrow to read my Q&A and definitely hop over to Steph's blog to read some useful tips and show her some love!

Thanks Steph for taking the time to answer these questions and it was fun getting to know you better.
