April Happenings

Things have been BUSY around here lately leaving me with little time (and energy) to spend on blogging. The biggest time-consumer right now is that our offer on the new house was accepted earlier this week!! So I've spent the past week signing my life away and digging up all kinds of documents needed for home buying. K and I set out a couple months ago to find a new construction site where we could build a home with a particular floor plan and customize the design to our taste.

Last weekend while looking at another new construction site, we walked through a move-in ready inventory home that had the most gorgeous kitchen and the exact floor plan we were in the market for. We slept on the details on Saturday night and decided on Sunday to make an offer because it was perfect and within our budget. We were already sold on the house itself, it was just the location we had to really think about because, even though it's in a lovely new community, it's a bit far out from where we're accustomed living. This week the offer got accepted and we put our current house on the market for sale (more paperwork and signing my life away).

It would have been fun to build and design a house from the ground up but I think that would also come with added stress when things go wrong and not knowing an exact move-in date when you're trying to sell your current home. Our neighbors a few houses down the street recently sold their house much quicker than expected and now have no where to live. Luckily they have family living nearby who are helping them out but that is one thing we don't have. My in-laws live over 2 hours away and my parents live in the Caribbean.

The good news is we've already had a few potential buyers look at the house over the past few days so things are moving in the right direction. I foresee the whole month of May being consumed with the technicalities of buying a new home, selling our current house, and then the most painful part - packing up and moving! Other than the moving process being a bitch, I'm all kinds of excited to settle into our new home and start decorating.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  5. That kitchen is beautiful! I think buying a home like this is much easier than building your own. We bought a home like these a few years ago and it was the best thing. Congrats girl!!

  6. ahhhhhhh!!!!! Congrats! I thought about you this week and wondered about the house update. So exciting and that is a beautiful kitchen but it is such a stressful time, I know it! And yes, a new build is fun but builders almost always push back the dates so getting a house already built is better if you don't want to rent for maybe a year or so. And now comes the staging of your regular house. Less is more :-) Let me know if you need some tips.

  11. Congrats again pretty lady!!!! I can't get over how gorgeous that kitchen is, and love Lola's new house! As for it being further out, you'll get used to it and honestly enjoy being away from the hustle/bustle and traffic. I love living more in the suburbs, and it comes with so many benefits! You're going to love your new house and location <3

  13. Ahhh this is so exciting! Congratulations on the new place-- while I can see the fun in designing your own place, I'm with you and think it would be much easier to just move in somewhere that's already complete- especially if it has the layout and kitchen you want! Fingers crossed that you sell your house quickly (but not too quickly)!

  15. Congrats! I'm so excited for y'all! Getting the timing just right is extremely stressful when trying to build a new home and sell your current home, so that's great news that you found an inventory that's perfect for y'all! Even though moving is going to be a pain, nothing will compare to coming home to a house that you love!

  17. Congrats on having your offer accepted! That is awesome!!! It is so hard to get the timing perfect. Either you find your new house quickly and cant unload your old one fast enough....or your house goes so fast that you hadn't had time to find the perfect one or are several months out with a builder haha. Hope you have a great weekend, I hope it all works perfectly for you!

  20. THAT KITCHEN!! I LOVE. i can't stand renovations - we did our basement and i put directly in the contract that it must be done within 2.5weeks or we start deducting from the negotiated price on a per day basis....so i do love ready-made/ready to move in plans/houses :) congrats!!

  23. yayyyyyy congrats!!!! i think it would be fun and whatnot to build a house from the ground up, but like you said, if you find a move in ready one that is exactly what you wanted.. it was meant to be. i hope the new location works out well as well. congrats again!!
