The Draft Weekend

I got home from work on Friday to a baffling piece of mail. A card addressed to me and the return address was also my home address. So I opened the card and it was signed with my husband's name so I laughed and said "why did you mail me this?" Not realizing that it wasn't even K's handwriting. Anyways let's just say his friends are joksters. And football season is important. Like rules their life important! I got the memo anonymous sender (Ahem... MJ!).

K and I then headed out to Ale House for some dinner and spent the rest of the night relaxing at home which was perfect after a crazy busy week.

Saturday was all about K's live fantasy football draft which the guys do every year. They come from near and far to set up their football teams for the season. It's a big deal for them and the ladies come to help out and hang out.

I'm not a football lover. Probably because I didn't grow up in the US and wasn't raised with it all around so it's not something that's in my blood but I'm married to an extreme football lover and appreciate it for what it is. Plus beer and good food, right? I'll never be a party pooper and have always enjoyed football parties even though I don't sit on the couch watching it myself.

It was a fun day catching up with the girls and all the new babies while the guys focused on building their teams.

On Sunday we met up with some friends for lunch at Twin Peaks which is right across from the Orlando Eye on International Drive. It's a cool spot to watch sports and have a couple beers.

After lunch we stopped at World of Beer on the way home to take a friend visiting from San Francisco out for a drink. I tried a flight of wheat beers and waited for the rainstorm to pass.

The rest of Sunday was spent at home doing my usual blogging, laundry, and food prep routine plus entertaining our visitor. We just grilled some steaks and corn on the cob for dinner and hung out.

How was your weekend?

  1. The card your husband mailed is way too cute, lady! What a smart man. I think it's awesome you support his and his friends love of football, instead of complaining and griping about it. I mean, football means food and and good drinks so what's not to like? Especially when you have lady friends to share the time with together. Glad you had a good weekend!

  3. I have seen that card on Pinterest, and I think it's so funny! I'm a football lover myself and I play in a couple of fantasy leagues, but we're definitely not as intense as your husband and his friends! But hey, even if it's just a fantasy draft, it's the perfect excuse to have a party, right!

  6. Your husband's friends are funny--that card is hilarious. I'm glad that you all had a good time at the draft. My husband had his draft and it was all guys (no girls would want to be there...except one guy's wife who shows up to it every year, uninvited). He has a decent team so he's happy--and I'm preparing to hear about it for the next 4 months lol

  10. That card is hilarious!! haha! I too am not into Football and I grew up here. People take their fantasy football very very serious which I totally do not understand. My friend is so into it, he went last night to a big draft party. He even turned off his phone, that is how serious it was. haha

  14. That card!! I was laughing so hard when I saw that picture!!! What a fun looking group of friends you guys get together with to do that draft. I love watching college football, and some NFL games but I don't understand the whole fantasy draft stuff. I mean, I understand how awesome it is or whatever for guys but it is so confusing to me how they pick and switching out players and having to keep up with it all. Haha!

We just had a Twin Peaks open here recently, I haven't had a chance to check it out yet. You already know my undying love for WOB, we were there this weekend too!
