Exploring Niagara Falls

K and I flew into Buffalo, NY last week Thursday as our plan was to drive to Niagara Falls to see the American side and then cross the border to see the Canadian side of the falls. The rental car company upgraded our car to a brand new Jeep Wrangler because it had Ontario plates so they wanted to get it back over to Canada.

Thank goodness because a small compact car may not have survived some of the dilapidated roads in Buffalo as we made our way to Niagara Falls State Park.

The US side has a small but cute downtown area and a nice park to walk around with views of the Falls but nothing compared to the magnificence of the views from the Canadian side, which everyone had told me prior to this trip.

CANADA
It took us about 20 minutes to cross the Rainbow International Bridge over to Canada because of some light traffic but it was an easy drive right into the heart of all the action that was bustling on the Canadian side.

We didn't go on the Maid of the Mist because we weren't prepared to get soaked but I have gone on this boat ride over 10 years ago. We spent a lot more time on the Canadian side taking in the views from different angles and seeing the Rainbow Bridge from a distance.

It was actually a really sunny and hot day so we went up to the Elements on the Falls Restaurant where we got some more views from a different angle.

That was the extent of our fun before the trip became action packed with family gatherings and my cousin's wedding, which was gorgeous!

  4. My boyfriend grew up right by the falls and I was able to check out the America side last summer. You (and he) are right, the Canadian side looks better! I'm also glad you didn't have trouble crossing over with the rental car. I am doing that next week into Canada but from Idaho!

  7. The Canadian side is so much more magical than the US side. I got to visit once when I was 10 years old. I would love to go back as an adult and take Zoe when she is a little older and could appreciate it more. We went on the boat, it was a cool experience...but you definitely get soaked from what I can remember!!!

  12. My parents love the Niagara area, so I've been there a few times. If you ever go back, Niagara on the Lake has a great wine region!
