Adventures in Austin, Texas

Austin has been on my travel wish list for several years now and we finally made it over there for Labor Day weekend to celebrate K's birthday.

On Friday, we had a smooth flight over to Austin and checked into our hotel which turned out to be a full suite with kitchen and living room at the Doubletree Downtown hotel.

A friend who recently moved out to Austin picked us to show us around town. First stop was at the Tiniest Bar in Texas.

Then onto The Dogwood for lunch and cold beverages since it was a hot day.

K and I did some more bar hopping and then settled at Texas Chili Parlor for some Tex-Mex for dinner.

We ordered the chicken fajita platter for two and it could have easily fed 4 or 5 people. Everything's definitely bigger in Texas!

We spent most of Saturday playing tourist on a double decker bus tour exploring the city. More details to come on that on Wednesday. We had to check out Allens Boots to see the hundreds of different styled country boots.

Then we met up with our friend to hang out at some bars on 6th Street.

Sunday started off with brunch at Swift's Attic which was delicious and K enjoyed their Bloody Mary bar.

After brunch I was determined to walk the bridge over to SoCo with a complaining husband in tote (as I mentioned in my post on Friday). It was quite a hike in the 100 degree weather. We stopped at the YETI Flagship Store and then made my way to the Kendra Scott store which I spotted on Congress Ave. the day before while on the bus tour.

Our buddy then picked us up and took us to the Blue Owl Brewery where we taste tested some flights of local Austin beer and went from there to listen to some live country music at the White Horse.

So glad we finally made it over to Austin to explore and had a personal tour guide to show us his favorite hot spots in and around the city.

And one more photo taken at the "I love you so much" mural.

Joining the lovely Biana sharing my Austin whereabouts from last weekend.

  10. Looks like a great trip! I'm actually heading to Austin in a couple weeks for work, so maybe I'll try and sneak it one of these meals! You actually went to places I've never been, which is saying a lot because I used to visit my friends in Austin all the time in college! ;)
