Five on Friday

I'm looking forward to having no big plans this weekend and going where the wind takes me, preferably to the couch and my bed...although we'll be out and about on Sunday for a local festival. I'm volunteering at the Hunger Project for Feeding Children Everywhere today with some coworkers so the day should go by quickly.

ONE:
Last night I attended a charity event held by our local Victim Service Center (for victims of sexual assault). My company has sponsored the organization for the past few years so the event was held in appreciation of sponsors and community partners. We mingled at a new restaurant downtown and enjoyed some appetizers and wine.

TWO:
Lola cracked her rear molar last week from chewing on something unknown to us and had to get the tooth extracted which meant unforeseen vets bills right before our trip so now I'm seriously considering pet insurance. Does anyone have advice or experience with insurance for dogs and if it's worth it? I've heard mixed reviews. Otherwise she's one the mend and feeling good with her pain meds.

About time for a new doggie bed? She fits like a pig in a blanket. lol

THREE:
Kate Spade's Champagne at midnight watch makes me super excited my birthday is coming up. My wishlist-making has been begun, and while I'm at it, the Champagne bottle iphone case will be added too.
FOUR:
I didn't mention it in my weekend recap of our trip to Barbados but two adorable cats adopted us while on vacation. I say adopted us, because they would just wonder into our apartment and make themselves comfortable every morning while we had coffee and breakfast. They were very sweet cats and never traveled without each other. I also tried to feed them a slice of bread (limited options okay?!) but I guess cats don't like bread, well at least these two smelled it and walked away.

FIVE:
Martinis & Bikinis' 3rd anniversary is this weekend and I can't believe I've reached this milestone. It's been a fun time slowly growing my space and meeting some amazing ladies while I'm at it. I usually try to throw a giveaway for my blogiversay but time got away from me this year with all the traveling.

Luckily I'm already co-hosting an awesome giveaway for Tif's birthday and we're giving away some gorgeous Kendra Scott statement earrings plus a $105 Sephora gift card so don't forget to enter!!

Enjoy the weekend!

  3. Happy anniversary! That champagne phone case is so cute! Dart is pretty accident prone, so we decided to get him doggie insurance, but of course he hasn't had anything major happen since. It's still comforting to know that it's there though, in case anything else happens.

  6. Oh man, unexpected vet bills suck (and they suck even when they ARE expected!) I'm sorry girl...hopefully Lola is doing better...and your wallet too! I know that pet insurance is usually best when bought when they're puppies. Otherwise it's pretty expensive (I think that's when I've heard it's not worth it). We looked into it when Cooper started having seizures, but it just wasn't worth it then.
Can we talk about how AMAZING that Kate Spade champagne watch is?? That might be being added to my Christmas list this year because it is adorable!
    Happy 3rd blogiversary!!!

  7. Happy 3 year blogiversary! And that Kate Spade watch...OMG! LOVE it! I have pet insurance for Novie and it's definitely worth it but I also got it for him way back when we first got him. It covered all of the shots and stuff that they have to get when puppies and his snip snip procedure so I just went with it. Unexpected pet bills are the worst and they're always SO much. Hope Lola is feeling better soon! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  9. Poor Lola!! YIKES! I've cracked a tooth before and it is paaaaainful. Glad she's at least on some meds and on the mend for now. I've heard mixed things about pet insurance, too. I looked into it a while ago but I honestly got overwhelmed and gave up. Insurance in general is so confusing!!!!!
Oh my goodness, so cute that the kitties kept coming to see you guys! :D
    Happy 3rd blog birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. So glad Lola is feeling better lots of *hugs* going her way, and lol at her pig in a blanket. Roxy looks like that sometimes in her bed, so we call it her "hot dog bun". And ahhhhh that watch and phone case are perfection, totally adding those to my Christmas list ;-)

    Happy Friday gurlie <3

  11. So Gus has insurance and the other two dogs don't. In catastrophic events (cancer, etc), insurance is totally worth it. For the things that come up like dental, etc? Meh. The insurance Gus has does give $$ back for well visits though. It's really a toss up.

    Happy blogiversary!

  14. I've been thinking about pet insurance too! Mine are pretty young and healthy now so I figure I could get in at a low rate now in case anything ever happened. Let me know if you find out anything!

  15. Poor Lola! We haven't used pet insurance, but our vet has different payment plans you can sign up for yearly--it helps when you know what things you have to pay for in the upcoming year, like if you have a puppy and all the first year shots and surgeries they need! It doesn't account for unexpected emergencies, but there is a discount for services, and two annual wellness exams, plus two office exams, which has somewhat helped offset costs when she's gotten really sick (or when she eats a sock).

  16. Woohoo for 3 years of blogging girl!! Oh no poor Lola, I've had a tooth extracted and it is painful, so I feel for her! Ok that KS watch is getting added on my growing wishlist :)! Yay for relaxing and unplanned weekends, I hope yours is relaxing you deserve it!

  17. Sorry to Lola!! That sounds painful. And we have pet insurance and I would never not have it because the unexpected bills can be so terrifying (as well as the fact that I don't want to ever have to base my dog's care on finances, you know? That worries me). But we just used our pet insurance for the first time a few months ago with our dog and they paid 90% of it (after our deductible). So it about $1,000 bill (in the middle of nowhere after he ingested something) and we paid about $200. I'd DEFINITELY reccomend. They also mailed our reimbursement check within 24 hours of us submitting our claim. Seriously awesome. We pay about $33 a month for the best coverage but they have cheaper options. We use this company (http://www.healthypawspetinsurance.com/). Sorry, I'm passionate about pet insurance ha.

Those cats are so, so cute!!!! Perfect to be adopted by some on vacay :)

Happy Birthday to your little blog :) So fun!

  20. Happy three years!!! My three year was last month and I sort of forgot until just now. Oops!!! Poor Lola!!! Vet bills always hit at the worst time! Let me know what you find out about insurance. I had considered it before too. Love that watch!!! Have a great weekend!

  22. awww the kitties!!
so sorry to hear about Lola, ouch.
I looked into pet insurance, but with 3 cats.. ouch. it wasn't worth it. I mean, I love my cats and will pay anything to make sure they are safe and sound, but they never have anything wrong with them. maybe when they are older, i'll look into it. that being said, dogs are more expensive and more active, plus they go outside etc etc so i feel like they are riskier. i know a blogger who has pet insurance and she has 2 dogs, and she definitely said it was worth it. hopefully nothing like this happens again though!

    happy blogiversary!

  24. We have pet insurance for the cat. She has a wide assortment of health problems (to include several batches of worms and a stint of no white blood cells). It has been really cost effective for us.
