Another Weekend with the Parents

Hope everyone had a fun yet restful weekend as I did. I kept fairly busy entertaining my parents who are leaving today but also got to catch up on some sleep.

Friday was nice and low key with some dinner at Texas Roadhouse so the guys could get their steak fix. This place always impresses me with how quickly the food comes out and the prices are very reasonable.

On Saturday I got a bunch of cleaning and laundry done before taking my Dad out to Lee & Rick's Oyster Bar which has been around for 65 years in Orlando serving some of the best oysters. The restaurant is the true definition of a hole in the wall but you know it's a staple in the community when you pull up and there's BMW's and fancy cars parked outside even though it's not exactly located in safest part of town.

After lunch we stopped off at Sportstown (another hole in the wall) to hang out for a bit and play some games. The place was a ghost town so we pretty much had access to all the games and K and my dad played a couple rounds of pool. The rest of the afternoon was spent watching the UCF game at home and relaxing.

On Saturday night, we picked up my mom from the airport (she was in Puerto Rico for a convention most of the week) and we all headed to Carrabba's Italian Grill for dinner which never disappoints. The sunset was also amazing that night!

The rest of the night was relaxing. K and I watched Dark Places with Charlize Theron which was written by the author of Gone Girl. The movie was quite slow but the plot takes a twist at the end which I thought was quite interesting although K didn't care to watch the rest and fell asleep. The movie has an average viewer rating but that's what you typically get from Redbox.

Sunday was spent shopping all over town with my mom. Seriously, I'm half her age and can't keep up with her shopping agility. I was done after 4 hours...

Back to the grind today!

I enjoyed having my parents here visiting for the past two weekends but it's always nice to get back into the usual routine and also eat out less!!

  3. I've been wanting to watch Dark Places since I heard that Charlize Theron was going to be in the movie adaptation. I loved the book, so I might have to swing by Netflix to grab a copy.

  5. Ohh Texas Roadhouse... totally drooling over their cinnamon butter right now. And glad you got to spend some time with your parents before they leave today! I didn't even realize Dark Places was out, I might have to rent it and see how it compares to the book. <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  7. I love what you bought! Sounds like a really fun weekend with the parents. I could really go for some oysters...I was thinking about them on my drive home yesterday even ha. I need to find a good place in Fort Worth...and someone to eat them with me. I feel like Redbox is turning into Netflix. Sometimes they have the good ones that everyone wants to see but most of them are just B movies.

  8. That salad looks seriously delicious! Sometimes hole in the wall places are some of the best. The movie sounds interesting, I love plot twists that keep you on your toes and especially liked Gone Girl so I may check it out. Looks like you picked up some cute things, but 4 hours, phew I'd be on the floor!

  11. Mmmm it has been forever since I have been to Carrabba's but I do love it!!! Shopping is what my mom and I do best. I am always amazed that she can go all day with me. You should see us on black Friday. We are out at least 18 hours or so and she hangs the entire time!!! Even I am starting to get cranky around 12 or so.

  14. The bread at Texas Roadhouse is addicting. I read Dark Places and I want to see how the movie stacks up to it. It was a little odd though. Love that scalloped edge tank you got.

  16. I'm surprised the Dark Places movie didn't get more hype considering how much hype Gone Girl got. I read the book so I'm curious about the movie, even if the reviews have only been mediocre. Plus, I just love Charlize!
