I'm back online today just in time for Kate, Kerri and my Wanderlust Wednesday travel linkup. On the 2nd Wednesday of every month, we host WW so feel free to linkup your travel-related posts. I love reading and living vicariously through your travel adventures.
My trip to New Orleans this past long weekend was a fantastic and very hectic time. K and I stayed in the heart of the French Quarter which made it easy to walk around and explore. The only time we took a taxi was to and from the airport. We arrived on Friday night with a loose itinerary and a list of restaurants to eat at. It wasn't possible to accomplish it all in 3 days but we covered good ground and kept very busy from morning til late night. Needless to say we're pretty exhausted but it was all worth it.
The food there is incredible and of course Bourbon Street provides great entertainment and live music all day everyday. What we didn't know is that it was also Gay Pride weekend or "Southern Decadance" so you can imagine people watching was at it's finest and I'm glad we got to experience the craziness that is Labor Day/Decadance weekend. I love attending the Gay Pride festivals in downtown Orlando so it was great to experience it somewhere else.

On Saturday we went to Coop's Place on Decatur St which has amazing local food if you're looking for casual New Orleans style dining.
We went over to Jackson Square to walk around and check out the art, architecture, and history scene.
The line for Cafe Du Monde was about 100 people deep so we decided to go to New Orleans Famous Beignets Cafe instead for some beignets and coffee.
On Sunday morning we had brunch at Mr B's Bistro with live jazz music which was amazing!
We then toured the Riverwalk along the Mississippi river. Unfortunately the ferry was closed that day so we couldn't make it over to the other side of the river.
We stayed at the Sheraton off Canal Street. Great location and price and we also had a nice view of the Mississippi River!
I literally have almost 200 photos on my camera and iPhone so it was hard choosing which ones to share. I've decided to split this trip recap into two posts and share photos from my camera today which are more touring the city photos with some food and restaurants we enjoyed.
Part 2 tomorrow will also be food and touring but more of the bar scene which is when my big camera gets put away and iPhone comes out. So check back tomorrow for some of the crazier sites and scenes we experienced in New Orleans.

ReplyDeleteOh how I love NOLA! So glad you guys had such a fabulous trip, can't wait to see the rest of your recap tomorrow and catch up next week <3
ReplyDeleteNice! I fear the line at Cafe du Monde.
ReplyDeleteOh I so want to go to New Orleans!! It looks like it is so much fun. Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteThis post makes me miss New Orleans so much!! You guys definitely hit a bunch of big spots for only 3 days and I remember the Sheraton, so close to everything. I love that you really don't need a cab or car to get around Nola. Jackson Square is literally my favorite spot because of all the art, history, people watching, and food!! I think when we went to Cafe du Monde, there was surprisingly zero line which is why we finally went, but I've seen it other times where the line is insane!
ReplyDeleteWe were seriously staying right across the street from each other in New Orleans! We were at the Westin Canal Place, and staying over there was so awesome because we were within walking distance to everything within the French Quarter but we missed all of the chaos of Bourbon! So glad you had such a good time, and we loved Mr. B's too! By the way, your picture of the street art is amazing! I loved all of the vibrant colors of the city!
ReplyDeleteNOLA is my favorite US city to date! My hubby even surprised me with a trip back for our anniversary this year! :) Beignets are so dangerous. Thank goodness we have them only there where we walk everywhere! It's such a lively and gorgeous city. I am already making a list for a potential third trip someday. I would love to go back. We haven't done a Jazz Brunch yet but I would love to. :) Glad you had a great time! XO -Alexandra

ReplyDeleteNew Orleans is my #1 destination to visit in the U.S. You guys did so much in such a short time- looks like a fabulous time!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great time!!! I went to New Orleans once, but it was in 2001 before Katrina. And I was 17. I would love to go back as an adult!!! I did get to experience Cafe du Monde when I was there and it was fabulous but I can't say that I would have waited 100 deep you know?! You got to try what people go there for without the wait so no loss haha! I love all your pictures!
ReplyDeletei have always wanted to visit NOLA but could never figure out when is the best time to go! when we were doing our girls trip, it was between NOLA, charleston or miami and miami won. i was a little disappointed because i really wanted to visit NOLA!
