A Throwback Valentine's at Disney

Happy Valentine's day! Or Valium-times day, as I used to call it. Either name works around here.

I'm just happy to be able to spend V-day this year with K as I was traveling last year while he was at home.

We usually avoid restaurants like the plague on V-day but I went ahead and booked us reservations for a popular seafood restaurant in town. Friday nights are our night to eat out and I have some gift cards that need to be used so we will just have to tackle the crowds this year. After cooking and eating at home all week, I love nothing more than having someone else cook & do the dishes for me.

Our best Valentine's yet was 2 years ago when we spent the day at Disney (using tickets we got as a Christmas gift).

We started at Hollywood Studios and went on the Tower of Terror ride which drops about 15 floors. (I'm getting too old for this shit)

Then went to Epcot to drink around the world ~ beer in Germany, wine in France, sake in Japan, and the list goes on. By the time you make it to the end of the "world" you have a huge nice little buzz going.  Epcot is my absolute favorite Disney Park and I'm hoping to go back this year.

Everything was fun and games until the sun went down and the temperature dropped a million degrees forcing me to buy a f-ugly Hello Kitty pajama/sweater thingy.

We stayed the night at a Disney hotel to avoid driving after our "international array" of drinks at Epcot. The next day we went for lunch on Disney's Boardwalk before heading home from our little stay-cation.

Not sure we'll ever be able to top this V-day so it's one for the books. This year is going to be more of a dinner & movie kind of night which I'm perfectly happy with.

What are your V-day/weekend plans?

Valentine's Favorites

While I'm very aware Valentine's Day has become a commercialized holiday that encourages you (or men) to spend money on red roses, chocolate hearts, hallmark cards and so on, I do think it's a good time of year to remember and show those you love that you appreciate them, whether it's your best friends, parents, significant other etc. Cooking a nice dinner at home, watching the movie he wants to see, going bowling or just spending quality time together are just as important.

I'm all for those things but my festive side gets the better of me sometimes and I've put together some gift ideas to go with the Valentine's theme, which would also be cute gifts for birthdays in February.

Valentine's Weekend Recap

Cheers to another week! This year really is flying by so quickly, before we know it it'll be summer again!

I flew back on Friday after a lovely but hectic week in Trinidad visiting friends and family. I got home to find some pretty red roses waiting for me.

K and I had planned to celebrate Valentine's on Friday night but I was too tired from traveling so we went out for a quick dinner (and a cocktail) and had an early night.

On Saturday, I was feeling refreshed so we went out in the evening to celebrate our Valentine's Day. We went to see Identity Thief which was pretty funny. Not as hilarious as I thought it would be but still worth seeing.

After the movie we went to a Spanish Tapas restaurant for some sangria, delicious food, live music and Spanish dancing.

On Sunday, we did some errands and layed low at home.

I also tried my hand at making a Cherry cheesecake. I used to make cheesecakes all the time and ran across my old recipe book from high school while I was visiting my parents in Trinidad.

Cherry Cheesecake Ingredients:
3 packages of cream cheese
1 cup sugar
4 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups vanilla cookies
3 tbsp butter

Directions:
Preheat oven to 325°F.
Mix cookie crumbs and 3 tbsp butter and press onto bottom of round baking pan.
Beat cream cheese, 4 eggs, 1 cup sugar and vanilla until well blended.
Pour over crust.
Bake 45-55 min. or until center is almost set.
Cool for about 30 mins before putting Cherry topping on.
Refrigerate before serving.

The Sunday Social: Valentine's Day

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. I'm joining Ashley and Neely today for The Sunday Social.

Sunday Social

1. What is the best Valentine's Day you've ever had?
When K and I spent the weekend in Ft Lauderdale. He decorated the room with roses and had a bottle of champagne waiting for us.

2. What is the worst Valentine's Day you've ever had?
I honestly can't remember a bad Valentine's Day. I know when I was single I would always joke that it was "valium-times" day because of all the hype.

3. What did you do for Valentine's this year?
I was in Trinidad away from K on Valentine's day so we celebrated last night instead. We went to the movies to see Identity Theft and then had dinner at my favorite Spanish Tapas restaurant, where we enjoyed sangria, live music & dancing, and different dishes from Spain.

4. What is your best Valentine's idea if you're single?
A ladies night with wine and sushi would be perfect :-)

5. What is your favorite Valentine's candy?
Any kind of Chocolate... or cheesecake, if you consider that candy.

6. Favorite Valentine's memory from your childhood?
When I had my first "boyfriend" at 11 years old, he gave me a heart shaped box of chocolates and a card. It was quite cute, now looking back.

Enjoy your Sunday!
